Dacia L. Moore, MA, LPC, NCC, stands as a pioneering advocate in nonprofit leadership, program development and evaluation and mental health education, especially within the African American community. As the President and CEO of Second Wind Counseling & Consulting and the former Executive Director of GateWay of Hope, her career exemplifies a deep commitment to providing outstanding leadership, strong program performance and in enhancing mental wellness and in unlocking the potential in others.

In 2003, Dacia established Second Wind Counseling & Consulting. It is fueled by the mission to educate people, particularly African Americans, on the transformative power of mental health counseling. Her influence in promoting mental wellness stretches beyond traditional counseling, evidenced by her radio show, Winds of Change, and her regular segment, Mind Therapy Thursday, on Gospel 1590, KPRT.

Dacia has an extensive background in developing mental health agencies. This translated to her role as Executive Director of GateWay of Hope. During her tenure from 2015 to 2024, she successfully managed donor relationships, participated in public speaking, and developed programs and revenue streams that grew the nonprofit budget over 500%.

Dacia is a published author and former adjunct professor. She taught graduate classes in counseling at Webster University and undergraduate classes in psychology at Penn Valley Community College.  Her expertise in mental health and community engagement is firmly established. Dacia is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and experience with the aim of fostering a more informed and resilient community.

Renowned for her exceptional speaking abilities, Dacia has conducted training workshops and keynote speeches across the country. Her inspirational words have impacted associations, businesses, and women’s groups. Her blend of practical experience, professional insight, and engaging “real talk” ensures that her teachings are not only heard but also applied.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Dacia currently resides in Kansas City, Missouri. Her undergraduate degree is from Michigan State University. Her graduate degree is from Webster University. Dacia serves on the Board of Trustees for the Community Mental Health Fund of Jackson County, Missouri. She is also a board member at her church, Sheffield Family Life Center.
