Shelly Doucet, J.D., M.S.W., CFRE

Shelly Doucet has served the Kansas City region’s nonprofit community at the management and executive levels for more than three decades. She brings a people‑first philosophy grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and steady leadership.

Before joining The Moran Company, Shelly served as Interim President and Assistant Vice President at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Foundation. Earlier in her career, she worked as the chief development lead for a domestic violence shelter, a large performing arts venue, and a K–8 public language‑immersion school.

She has raised more than $130 million for nonprofits. Her portfolio of experience spans campaign strategy, endowments, major and planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, board engagement, and fundraising team management. In addition to her work with The Moran Company, she is a fundraising consultant with Praxis Nonprofit Strategies.

A former practicing attorney and mediator, Shelly earned her Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University. She later completed a Master’s in Social Welfare Administration at the University of Kansas, strengthening her commitment to systems‑level change and community impact.

Shelly has served on and managed boards at both the grassroots and institutional levels. She currently serves on the boards of Mid‑America Charitable Gift Planners, the Jackson County Council Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, and the Regnier Family Wonderscope Children’s Museum. She is also a past president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Kansas City chapter.

As an executive search consultant, Shelly combines her knowledge of nonprofit structure and fundraising practice, her experience with volunteer leaders, her social work values of strengths-based assessment and advocacy, her years as a mediator, and her natural joy connecting with people to identify the best candidates for critical nonprofit roles.
