Helping nonprofits secure the financial resources they need to change the world has been the focus of Steve’s career for over 30 years. He brings an understanding of what it takes to succeed in development and the nonprofit world to The Moran Company’s executive search team.
During Steve’s 18-year tenure at Children’s Mercy Hospital and Clinics, the hospital raised over $200 million, including more than $125 million in capital campaigns. At Water.org, he built a full-spectrum development program from the ground up and tripled the organization’s revenue in just two years.
In 2008, he opened a consulting practice focused on helping nonprofit leaders identify and pursue innovative strategies for transformative change. Steve has carved out a particular niche in working with historical and cultural organizations, in addition to his work with health and human service organizations. He has experience in such areas as historic preservation, history education, performing arts and documentary films. He serves on the board of directors of the Missouri River Bird Observatory, a conservation organization, as well as on the board of the Friends of Arrow Rock, a historic preservation and education organization.
Steve received a Bachelor of Science degree in business communication with a minor in writing from Missouri State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Missouri—Kansas City. He attained his CFRE in 1997. Steve was the 2013 Outstanding Fundraising Professional for the Association of Fundraising Professionals Mid-America Chapter.
