Bill Moran is Founder and President of The Moran Company. The firm specializes in nonprofit executive searches for executive directors, fundraising directors of development and other top leadership positions across the nation. Bill has personally led more than 70 nonprofit searches.

He brings a rare combination to the search sector of having spent another 10 years as senior fundraising staff and 12 years as a successful fundraising consultant serving more than 100 clients. He moves easily among his peers in fundraising circles and nonprofit leadership groups. Bill understands the challenges in finding the right fundraising staff and knows the type of people who make successful nonprofit leaders. His contacts and nationwide network allow him to do customized recruitment for a variety of nonprofit organizations, ranging from small start-up agencies to large established hospital foundations.

Prior to founding The Moran Company and focusing on executive searches, Bill achieved personal success in the nonprofit sector as an effective fundraiser, consultant, and trainer. He served as the Director of Development for the Johnson County Region of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kansas City, Kansas. He then joined Saint Luke’s Hospital Foundation in Kansas City. He was Director of Planned Giving there from 1987 to 1996. During his tenure, Saint Luke’s planned giving program received the 1996 Mid-America Association of Healthcare Philanthropy Showcase Award.

Bill also taught at the prestigious Madison Institute of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy. He has written numerous fundraising articles for publications and has made presentations around the United States on a variety of fundraising topics. (See Presentations.) In 1997, Bill was named “Trainer of the Year” by the Center for Management Assistance. He has presented at 54 fundraising conferences. He designed and implemented a cutting-edge national web-based training program for development professionals. In addition, he has served as president of several nonprofit Boards.

Bill holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Missouri, where he was Phi Beta Kappa and a member of the Law Review. He also has a master’s degree in education from the University of Kansas. He is President of the Network of Nonprofit Search Consultants (NNSC), a member of the Missouri Bar, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), International Rotary, and Nonprofit Connect.
