Hospital Foundation Director – Candidate Evaluation

There are several attributes to look for in a great hospital or health system foundation executive director. This Hospital Foundation Executive Director – Finalist Evaluation Form will help you evaluate the essential characteristics listed below.  (Download form in Word or PDF.)

  • Has Passion for the Health Care Mission. They are “driven” by the importance of the organization’s mission:  caring for the sick and saving lives.
  • Is a Self Starter. Great hospital foundation executive directors are goal driven and possess a high degree of motivation and energy. They are “doers.” They have a record of productivity.
  • Has Fundraising Skills. They have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, including major gift fundraising , planned giving, and capital campaigns. In addition, they understand finances and how to budget.
  • Gets Out of the Office.  They are interested and skilled at “making calls” to cultivate donor prospects and steward the organization’s benefactors.
  • Works Well with Volunteers.  They have the ability to attract and motivate others, especially volunteer board members. They are open to and accept many different types of people.
  • Working with Administration and Medical Staff.  They have the ability to work closely with administration and medical staff
  • Communication Skills. They have excellent presentation skills both in a group and one-on-one.  They are good listeners. They have grant writing skills.
  • Manage Effectively. They have the ability to select, supervise and inspire a development team.
  • Can Promote the Organization.  They have the ability to “sell” their ideas to others and share the organization’s story in a compelling way.
